Hercules – Medical Hold

Hercules Came to MAGDRL in November 2024(5)

Update: 11/18/2024

Hercules had to be hospitalized for several days due to a reaction to his medication.  After flushing the meds from his system, it will take several weeks, if not months for his body to recover.  Due to these issues, we have had to put off his heartworm treatment until his internal organs have fully stabilized.  He is home, and we are seeing great improvements in his bloodwork.  On his last check-up, all the vet techs stopped by to see him and give him cuddles because they missed him and loved him so much.

Added November 2024

Hercules came to MAGDRL in October 2024 from a breeder/hoarding situation.  He came into rescue with stitches in his neck from being bitten and bullied by other dogs as well as having heartworm, ehrlichia, and liver issues (possibly related to the heartworm.)  He also will need to be neutered after his heartworm is resolved. He is tentative of new people and dogs (not aggressive at all, mostly ignores unless he gets scared) and finds things that move fast either scary (little children) or as something to chase (squirrels, small dogs that run).  If he doesn’t like something, he barks at it – this includes not wanting to do something.

Despite coming from a rough environment, he is the cuddliest dog ever!  He wants nothing more than to lay on his person’s lap and cuddle up next to them in bed.  He loves to play tug with blankets, and wants to be involved in everything you are doing.    Hercules does not know any commands, but he has already learned so many new things, such as how to stick his head out of the car window, that his Dane sister’s food and treats are not his, and that leashes mean fun times are coming!

Hercules deserves so much love, and has so much love to give.  Please consider helping with his care. We look forward to having him fully recovered and healthy and ready for his forever home.
